Written by Sorenson

On Monday, my six year old autistic son saw me crying at the kitchen bench, because I had a cold and a big day ahead and I just felt overwhelmed with life. He came up, nearby but off to one side, and did a little jig and a nonsense song for me with a big smile. 'Doop de doop de dooo!' I smiled at him through my tears, and he came over to me and hugged me in his bony, coltish way, and said 'Mama happy now?'
This is autism. Love and empathy, expressed with silly dances and bony awkward hugs. Mama is happy now.
